Introducing Virtual Learning with EEAbroad

Virtual Learning

At EEAbroad, we understand that when cross-cultural connections are most needed, it’s also most challenging to do so. That’s why we’re introducing virtual learning modules designed to internationalize course curriculums or substitute a canceled study abroad program. Through completely customizable Lecture Series, Cultural Experiences, and Interactive Exchanges focused on Cuba, our engaging virtual modules break through the digital enclosures of online teaching and bring students across international borders, virtually traveling, learning, and making impactful cross-cultural connections.

So What Does EEAbroad Virtual Learning Look Like?

We develop engaging, custom virtual learning modules to achieve learning objectives and augment an online course. Our team is happy to tailor any module component according to thematic needs and weave international elements into an existing (or current) course. All of EEAbroad’s virtual modules are led in-country by Cuban experts and include:

  • Lectures Series

  • Cultural Experiences

  • Interactive Exchanges

Some sample modules include:

  • Cuba From the Eyes of an Entrepreneur: Meet the founder of Havana’s most popular ride-sharing app, Bajanda, as he explains the challenges and opportunities present in Cuba’s nascent private sector, navigating the technological limitations caused by the U.S. embargo, the context of transportation difficulties in Cuba, revenue streams not directly associated with taxi services, the customer segments of his business that he did not foresee, and whether his business is reliant on the tourism industry with one time transactions.

  • Environmental Studies: Join an environmental scientist as he explains how the extreme economic hardship caused by the fall of the Soviet Union and the U.S. embargo spurred Cuba to embrace food sovereignty and organic agriculture on a national level. Here, we’ll cover the impact of sugar, the country’s leaps and bounds with urban and organic agriculture, and environmental conservation (and destruction) across the island.

  • Postcolonialism and Race:  Join a panel discussion led by Afro-Cuban intellectuals, artists, and activists. Major themes to be debated and discussed are postcolonialism, marginalization, and race in contemporary Cuban society.

  • Experience Hershey: Many are familiar with how sugar cane dominated Cuba's economy and global connections and also influenced Western history but few are aware of the model town, “Hershey”, that Milton Hershey established just east of Havana in 1916. On this multimedia 360° tour, we’ll walk the streets with the town’s lively historian, meet the community project established within the former sugar factory, and visit the homes to hear stories from the descendants of the original families that resided and worked in Hershey.

  • You name it — the sky’s the limit!

All modules are customizable and can be paired with a faculty-led program in Cuba. Additionally, they each allow for the option to include an interactive Q/A after the virtual experience. This is where organic conversations and unscripted discoveries come to light.

More than ever, we agree with Conde Nast Traveler’s sentiment that, "The goal shouldn’t be to get students on airplanes. It should be to graduate students who understand the international nuances of their disciplines, so they can become better, more engaged citizens."

EEAbroad's mission has always been, virtual or not, to give students an engaging, international experience so they can become mindful, future travelers. Visit our virtual learning webpage to learn more about modules and pricing.

What Now? Let’s Collaborate.

In the wake of COVID-19, students don’t have to be limited by the inability to travel. EEAbroad’s virtual learning modules are a welcome addition to substitute for a canceled study abroad program and a way in which faculty can internationalize their course curriculums.

We are keeping a close eye on Cuban travel restrictions and updating our COVID-19 information regularly. We are optimistic that together, we will all get through this, and the silver lining is virtual learning will enhance student travel experiences for years to come.

So let’s talk! To learn more about EEAbroad virtual learning or to subscribe for regular e-blast updates, contact or email us at info@eeabroad.com.
